Currently, to charge my ancient cell phone from within my even-more-ancient car, I use an adapter that plugs into the car's cigarette lighter . . . . but that's not terribly reliable (seems like electrical contact is intermittent).
Since I'm looking into upgrading both car and cell phone, can anyone tell me about the state-of-the-art when it comes to more modern standards for charging cell phones & laptops within a car?
Somewhere I thought I heard about USB being used in that regard, but that doesn't make sense: with USB, the host is supposed to supply power to peripherals, so I don't see how I can re-charge a laptop (host). Or does USB only work for a cell phone (that I assume treats itself as a slave/peripheral) and not a laptop?
