wireless too slow for internet speed

Hey guys,

My wife is having issues on her computer watching videos for her school. video keeps starting & stopping and there's no way to go back to listen to what was previously said. At first I thought it was her computer needing updates and spyware removal, but I just remembered she is using either a B or G wireless card. can't remember which but was thinking it was G.

the video player its using isn't a live broadcast but kinda like that which doesn't have controls to go back and forward.

Anyway we have a linksys N900 router here at home. I had a chance to get the linksys AC version but didn't want to spend the money @ the time with AC being so new at the time, but now I'm starting to wish I had.. just been having endless issues with linksys smart wifi. but anyways..

I found out this month that Comcast boost our internet speed up to
50 mbps down / 10 up

so I got to thinking, if she's using B, or maybe even G, internet couldn't go over wireless G that fast anyway could it?

but even if so, like worse comes to worse and she is using B, 11mbps should be fast enough to play that kind of video shouldn't it? but it does work fine on my computer using 100 mbps wired internet, so I'm pretty sure thats what it is.

What does typically happen when your wireless network can't keep up with the internet speed its capable of? does it throttle back that much? Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with that since I know nothing about the specifics of how wireless works.

Its a video thru her school she's a teacher at so I'm sure its the highest quality video, but still even 11 mbps should be fast enough wouldn't you think?

Otherwise I was going to get her a wireless N nick card this weekend. I can't hook her computer to wired because the cable modem and router are on a completely different side of the house, maybe 30 ft apart at most. signal strength is still about 60% or os so its definitely not signal strength, although my Kodak printer in the same room is kinda having the same issue sometimes it shows up in smartwifi sometimes it doesn't, then when it is the kodak software doesn't always recognize it even though I can type 192.168.1.141 directly into my browser and get right to it every time, just has issues with scanning mostly..

Gosh Comcast keeps doing this to me & I'll have to upgrade our whole house to AC. I just figured our Roku players still use N and wired on my computers motherboard doesn't support gigabit eithernet anyway so no reason to upgrade to AC when don't have the equipment to support it, but if Comcast keeps upping our speed like that I may have to.

like right now linksys reports my speed between 64-65 mbps. I never thought home users would get that fast.. ya know?

if I did upgrade my network to gigabit, does wired gigabit require cat6 cabling? or can gigabit do over cat5e?
