I'm putting this in the Windows forum, because the error appears to be of Windows origin. However, it really is a combination of software and hardware, too.
I'm trying to install a Hauppauge 950Q tuner (USB) on a Windows 7 box. It appears to install and run o.k., but it will not scan for analog channels. It is scanning for clear QAM, but those are not the ones I need (and are mostly encrypted). The basic cable channels come through on analog.
The error message is: Device Setup Wizard Value cannot be null. Parameter name: s.
(I will copy/paste the details log below, in case that might help.)
So, how do I change the parameter?
This tuner worked fine on XP, although I remember having issues getting it to install on it, also. However, The tuner and WinTV 7 software are supposed to be designed specifically for Windows 7 and Windows 8.
I have been e-mailing with Hauppauge Support, but the only suggestions so far have been uninstalling and reinstalling. The last e-mail asked if I have downloaded all updates. (Read that: they don't have a clue.) Needless to say, my answer is, "been there, done that."
Also, I was originally having an issue with the .NET version, but I believe that has been cleared up, as the detail log now shows .NET 4. So, I'm left with the above-described error.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
