DVD Creation on a Mac. All FREE after you purchase DVD.
DVD creation. Why? You bought the DVD. You own it. You would like an extra copy for backup or travel. OR you simple like the quality play back of your Blu Ray player that upscales your DVDs. OR you prefer discs over all the file management. Whatever the reason. Again, this is AFTER you bought the DVD. I’m NOT expert/pro. I just know this works and have done it. Trials and errors of applications “Quitting” solved.
For the novice/beginner:
1. Install latest version of Handbrake
2. Install VLC
3. libdvdcss via .pkg at Mac Code Monkey (pkg) This removes encryption.
4. Google Mac Burn. Burn - Home. Download Burn
5. Open Handbrake, Insert DVD (Close DVD player when it runs) and choose Video_TS - Open. Handbrake will begin scan
6. Handbrake will find largest Video_TS file automatically. If DVD contains multiple movies/episodes such as a Dual Layer use Handbrake drop down for file selection. Choose file appropriately by Title drop down under Source (rip and burn one at a time) compatible with your DVD GB size.
7. Handbrake settings are fine as is. Use MP4 file which when completed will leave a .mv4 file which you will drag into Burn for conversion to a .mpg file and compatible with Burn after rip.
8. Burn settings DVD-Video on drop down: Preferences - DVD Video - Region NTSC (MUST). Preferences - DVD Video - DVD - Uncheck DVD Theme for title
9. You must delete the “Burn Temporary” folder (Users - xxxx - documents - Burn Temporary) between burnings. This prevented Burn from constantly quitting on a new burn.
10. Quit Handbrake between rips which clears it out.
11. Use DVD-R blank or the new ones DVDR. After loading hit Ignore. Burn at 4X. Upon completion Mac will now recognize disc as a DVD and will begin playing with Mac DVD player.
There you go; rip, convert and burn.
Note:
Single Layer DVD runs about 4.7 GB. Dual layer twice that. Keep desktop clean. Delete Burn Temporary folder (your mac will automatically create a new one) between burns. Quit Handbrake between each rip.
Opinion: I watch some “free” content on Youtube. This is copyrighted. I guess someone is getting away with something. HOWEVER, I would never had made my purchase of a TV series had I not watched it on Youtube first. $130 later I own the DVDs of the series. Point: Content providers should learn “free” is great advertising!
