Have a Toshiba Satellite L355-5-S7812 with Windows Vista and the issue is that sometimes the screen goes black. The other day it was black and I tried hitting different buttons and it came on. After I was finished and shut it down as usual. Turned it on the next day and the screen stayed black. When I hit the power button for a fraction of a second it would go on with a reddish color then go all black again. Don't know what to do. When it worked I installed Malwarebytes and it found no malware. Has no virus issues either (use AVG free version for this because this laptop is not used much). This was my elderly mother's laptop and she asked me to fix it. It works if a separate monitor is plugged in, but obviously would prefer the convenience of this monitor working properly. Any ideas?
