Windows Safety Master

I was tricked into clicking a window that claimed it was from Microsoft and a threat was detected. When the usual windows warnings came up, asking if I wanted to download the program, and I saw that it was not from windows. I declined the download.

But the phony program started to show all the Trojans and viruses I had anyway. I tried to eliminate it through the taskmaster but it was disabled. Oddly, the malicious software removal tool full scan saw no problem, but security essentials was disabled. I tried those in safe mode.

I never clicked on any of the phony program's buttons to clean up my phony viruses. The malware window didn't show up in Safe mode, but security essentials was still disabled. I was able, in safe mode, to restore to a previous date and everything seems normal so far.

The malware called itself "Windows Safety Master".

Do I need to toss everything and reinstall my system?
