Periodically one or two of the six streams of my Multi Stream Cable Card experience V53 errors (i.e., many of the channels are reported as "not authorized"). I've worked with Comcast Cable here in Northern Virginia to set up (pair) the initial cable card I obtained from their local office. I've since had numerous errors and Comcast rolled a truck and technician to my home. After swapping out the Cable Cards and updating the firmware, I receive less frequent V53 errors. However, I continue to receive them. I have 3 TiVo Minis connected to other televisions throughout my home via Ethernet and if the problem manifests at a tuner in use by one of the TiVo Minis, I cannot watch these "unauthorized" channnels at the location where I wish to watch them. The channels reprted as unauthorized are part of the cable lineup I pay for and should be "authorized." The new TiVo Roamio does not allow you to individually pair a tuner or stream with a device (i.e., the TiVo Mini). I additionally have 4 computers, three internet radios, 2 NAS devices (Synology 1511+ and Iomega iConnect), 2 smartphones and a Dell c3110 printer attached to my home network. Each of these devices has a unique IP address but none are set up with static IP addresses.
TiVo suggested the signal to noise ratio and signal strength were too high (i.e., greater than 35) and suggested using inline coaxial attenuators. This sounds like bunk, as the technician who installed my CableModem was trying to increase these numbers and S/N ratio is just that (i.e., a ratio). Signal is reported by the TiVo Roamio to be between 96 and 100% and S/N ratio is typically between 38-40 db.
The Comcast cable guy said that card pairing allowed the channel lineup I paid for to be authorized and that this authorization occurred across all the streams. The failure to obtain some channels on some streams was unlikely.
I am willing to try the attenuators. However, I thought I'd ask for advice or suggestions via this forum.
